Breaking Mirror

New Land Series

2020_Dim 200X150 cm
Technique : Oil paint and mixed media on wood

A reference to the shadow cast by others and society on an exploding individuality.

Here, the artist expresses the breaking down of a modesty that prevents the freedom to live. It’s her emancipation from her family and societal heritage. You can almost hear the cry of her emancipation, the sound of her liberation, the anger after the rage directed at herself and others. ‘Let me tell what I’ve been through’, the canvas seems to scream.

You have to reverse the power in order to glimpse the possibility of healthy expression. In this painting, we see the silence imposed as a second form of violence, but also the need for this silence for the reconstruction and awareness of the victim, who says ‘this imposed violence does not define me’.
